Elegant Universe NYC Workshops

January 29, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Join the cast of Elegant Universe for a fun Workshop Marathon! Four 1 hour classes to introduce new styles, learn new combos, and dance the cold away!

Persian Possibilities w/ Elena Faye | 2-3 pm
Learn how to achieve the elegant lines and weightless quality of Classical Persian Dance. While Oriental style emphasizes earthiness and hipwork, Persian Classical dance revolves around flowing arms, expressive hands, whirling turns, and sweeping traveling steps. Push your Oriental dance to the next level by cross-training in this highly complimentary style that will add grace and elegance to your dance. All levels.

Saidi Combos w/ Faith Chang | 3-4 pm
Looking to add some variety to your cane routines? Join Faith for a fun exploration of folklore-inspired saidi combinations. Based on her studies with Egyptian folk dance masters, Faith will introduce several combinations using the assaya in both the feminine and masculine style. Please bring a cane.

Drum Solo Combos w/ Hayal | 4-5 pm
Get ready to shimmy and sweat! Join Hayal for a series of fun combinations perfect for your next drum solo choreography. Hayal will break down unique isolations and layering drills designed to develop clean and effective technique. Challenge your body and mind while working to achieve that elusive “wow” factor!

Kolo Kombos w/ Jenna Shear | 5-6 pm
In this Balkan Fusion workshop, we will work with the Kolo, a line dance beloved across the Balkans from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, and Serbia. While the basic steps are easy to learn, the best dancers weave in their own flair and ornamental elements. We’ll do just the same, but with Belly Dance! After mastering the basic footwork, we’ll add upbeat and catchy layers in a series of combinations for you to take home and enjoy.
