Kali is a dancer and teacher of Improvisational Tribal Style and Tribal Fusion belly dance. She is founder and Co-director of Tribal Desires, a Tribal Fusion/ Tribal Improv troupe. She is also founder and director of Tribal Dreams, a Tribal Style/Folkloric student troupe. Both troupes are based in Charleston, WV.

Although Kali began belly dance classes in 1995, she began her “tribal” dance lessons in 1997 with a 10-day trip to California to take classes from Carolena Nericcio, world-renowned director of FatChanceBellyDance and the creator of the style known as American Tribal Style. Once formally introduced to the tribal style of dance, Kali knew that it was to become her passion.

Upon returning to West Virginia she was able to continue her pursuit of the tribal format by studying ethnic/folkloric dance with Ami Lamborn, and by traveling to dance workshops in nearby states. Later, Kali became a student of Narah, a Tribal Fusion Style teacher, and had the honor of dancing in her student troupe, Tribe of Fires.

Kali’s unique approach to this beautiful style of dance is the result of her many influences through workshops and classes. Kali has attended classes/workshops of world-renowned instructors such as Morocco (of New York), Princess Farhana (of California), Conchi (of Ohio), Aegela (of Ohio–awarded the coveted Lifetime Performer’s license by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, an honor held by only 11 foreigners), Arish Lam (of Puerto Rico) and Amaya (of New Mexico), as well as from widely acclaimed and highly honored instructors such as Jill Parker, director of Ultra Gypsy (CA), Zi’ah Ali director of Awalim Dance Company (GA), the Urban Tribal Dance Company (CA), Teresa Tomb, director of Radkadu Gypsy (KY), Neefa and Safa of Khafiff (PA), Shakira (OH), Phyllidia (KY), Maja, the Girl from the Nile, director of Gypsy Tribe (FL), Taletha (KY), Jim Boz and Eyesah (a former Miss America of Belly Dance). Related dance training includes instruction in Congolese and West African dance.

Kali is honored to have been a student of Narah bint Durr and to have taken workshops and classes from the various instructors named above

Leilah Moon

Leilah began teaching bellydance in the winter of 2013/2014. As a teacher, she develops a curriculum that conditions the body for dance before delving into the multifaceted cultural aspects, movement technique, and vocabulary. She offers classes at Rendezvous at the Beginner and Intermediate level.

Technique class format includes: (1) beginning with stretching to awaken and activate muscles and improve flexibility (2) drills and conditioning of the legs, arms, and abdominal muscles to prep them for movement, and to improve physical fitness and toning of the body, (3) Breakdown technique of select movements as well as body alignment and posture, often including choreography or combos to enhance memory and to apply movements learned. (4) Cool down stretches are where flexibility can be increased and muscles can begin to recover.

Leilah’s Bellydance Cardio Class is designed to get blood flowing with movements inspired by several different styles of bellydance. The focus is conditioning the body for bellydance through full body strengthening, low impact cardio, and feminine movement; most of the class is spent in constant movement similar to Zumba or other dance-cardio formats. No experience required!
