Belly dancing since 2004 has been a joy and a privilege to Jamila. Trained in traditional and modern Egyptian styles as well as Lebanese, American Cabaret, Greek and Turkish, Jamila has a unique and beautiful approach to this ancient art form. She applies her amalgamation to traditional Middle Eastern and Mediterranean music in addition to blues, rock and metal genres.
Initially learning from Layla Lee & Rada Burns in Chicago, Jamila’s passion for music and the dance has led her to travel and train all over the country. She’s been honored with instruction from many belly-dance greats like Dina of Egypt, Zahra Zuhair, Ansuya, Suhaila Salimpour, Amanda Rose, Sadie Marquardt and many others. In 2010, she became certified in Ansuya’s Cabaret style and currently undertakes a mentorship with Zahra Zuhair.
Specializing in improvisation, Jamila has many times been featured with local Indiana bands like Black Stone Ritual, Il Troubadore and the East-West Music Group. She’s also shared the same stage with the Yuval Ron Ensemble, Unida, YOB & The Earthlings.
In recent years, Jamila’s featured her choreographed pieces with the Bellydance Superstars Club Bellydance, The Carmel International Arts Festival and benefits for Meals on Wheels and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
Currently you can find Jamila teaching at her studio near downtown Indianapolis and performing at various restaurants, fairs, festivals, weddings and more all over the metro Indianapolis area. She gives lectures at colleges, workshops for dance organizations and presentations at trade shows.
For Jamila, the greatest satisfaction comes from teaching a wide-range of students from many age brackets, genders and walks of life. Her favorite thing is how all students come as a seed and watching them bloom into beautiful trees and flowers as they learn to develop movements and grow with grace; this is a priceless reward.

Blessed with an energetic spirit and inviting presence, Basma has been dancing for most of her life. As a child, she studied ballet, tap and jazz dance before shifting to various forms of underground dance during her teen years. While pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Women’s Studies, Basma discovered a love for teaching and performing as well as a fervor for improving women’s lives through female empowerment. Combining these passions brought her to the world of Middle Eastern dance. Basma studied with some of the best instructors in her area and built upon this training by studying with international bellydance stars such as Amar Gamal, Ansuya, Aziza of Montreal, Jill Parker, Mira Betz, Petite Jamilla, Ruby Beh, Sadie and Sedona. Most recently, Basma completed a weeklong dance intensive with international superstar Aziza of Montreal in Asheville, NC. Middle Eastern dance is a rare art form that is not only mesmerizingly beautiful to watch; it also has the power to heal and nourish a woman’s mind, body and soul. Basma invites you to experience the splendor of Middle Eastern dance!

Leilah began teaching bellydance in the winter of 2013/2014. As a teacher, she develops a curriculum that conditions the body for dance before delving into the multifaceted cultural aspects, movement technique, and vocabulary. She offers classes at Rendezvous at the Beginner and Intermediate level.
Technique class format includes: (1) beginning with stretching to awaken and activate muscles and improve flexibility (2) drills and conditioning of the legs, arms, and abdominal muscles to prep them for movement, and to improve physical fitness and toning of the body, (3) Breakdown technique of select movements as well as body alignment and posture, often including choreography or combos to enhance memory and to apply movements learned. (4) Cool down stretches are where flexibility can be increased and muscles can begin to recover.
Leilah’s Bellydance Cardio Class is designed to get blood flowing with movements inspired by several different styles of bellydance. The focus is conditioning the body for bellydance through full body strengthening, low impact cardio, and feminine movement; most of the class is spent in constant movement similar to Zumba or other dance-cardio formats. No experience required!
